“Ani, no hitting, little one!” Daehyun joked, nothing the hint of mischief in her eyes. That glint in her eyes was so familiar to him. He remembered seeing that same glint when they were just children. Whenever Jieun was planning on doing anything silly. As happy as Daehyun was, he felt small pangs of sadness. He remembered the pain that he felt many years ago. A small frown tugged on the edge of his lips but he quickly snapped out of it. Daehyun knew that she was also hurt. He didn’t want to seem so selfish.
He looked down at Jieun and nodded. “I missed you…so much.” he whispered, biting his lip. Daehyun never expected himself to be so overcome with emotions to see the girl that he spent most of his childhood with. “I won’t leave, I’m staying..” he responded, pulling her into another gently embrace. “I’ll stay..” he repeated as he embraced Jieun before pulling away slowly. He gave her a small smile.
As he pulled her into a short embrace, Jieun found herself pausing in thought. The whole world around her seemed to have stopped as he did this. But as he pulled away, she was hit by the coldness of reality. She bit her lips, hoping that it’ll comfort her. Looking up towards him, she noticed that small smile of his and smiled in return. You just never changed, did you…?
“You know, we’re going to have to make up for the time we weren’t around each other.” Jieun said, taking more of his developed features. This all felt like a dream to her, as if she was gently soaring through the clouds. She wasn’t sure if she should ask if he wanted to hang out with her today. What if he’s busy? You’ll just end up becoming a burden.
